the 3 million tons/year ccus demonstration project is a green, low-carbon demonstration project jointly created by the local government, ningxia coal industry, and petrochina changqing oilfield company. it represents the world’s first cooperation between modern coal chemical industry and large-scale oil and gas field exploitation, aimed at reducing carbon emissions. upon completion, it will become china's largest demonstration base for carbon capture, utilization, and storage (ccus), significantly exemplifying the nation's commitment to a green, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy transformation.

the spherical tanks’ welding began on march 8th, with a total welding length of 1,080 meters. to ensure high-quality welding, all participating units carefully planned and deployed measures such as implementing standardized safety and civility construction catalogs, setting up safety facilities, conducting regular safety inspections, continuously rectifying potential hazards, ensuring worker safety, using fireproof cloths for full enclosure of the tanks to protect welding quality. the first phase mainly includes a 500,000 tons/year co2 capture and liquefaction project, a 400,000 tons/year co2 flooding and sequestration project, and a 100,000 tons/year co2 comprehensive utilization project in coal mines, scheduled for completion and operation in october 2024.
