on january 17th, the “key technologies and demonstration of ten megawatt alkaline-pem hybrid hydrogen production system”, which is the national key research and development program "hydrogen energy technology” 1.1 special project, officially received the project approval document from the ministry of science and technology, entering the implementation phase.

building an electricity-hydrogen synergy system is a crucial approach to accelerate the scalable development of renewable energy. however, the single alkaline electrolysis (alk) or proton exchange membrane (pem) electrolysis hydrogen production routes face challenges in simultaneously meeting economic, reliable, and scalable development requirements. this project aims to leverage the synergies of alk and pem, focusing on key scientific issues such as the evolution of energy and material flows in hybrid hydrogen production systems under wide power fluctuations, cross-temporal and spatial scale coordination optimization mechanisms, and performance degradation and failure mechanisms under random fluctuating conditions. the goal is to develop a low-cost, highly reliable, and large-capacity alk-pem hybrid hydrogen production system adaptable to wide power fluctuations. the project is led by guohua investment (hydrogen company) and involves collaboration with the hydrogen research institute, jia geng innovation laboratory, beijing low carbon clean energy research institute, china shipbuilding parry hydrogen technology company, beijing jiaotong university, xi'an jiaotong university, china cnr corporation zhuzhou electric locomotive research institute, dalian university of technology, and china special equipment inspection and research institute.
